2005 ConocoPhilips Rodeo Run

My results:

Time 01:07:46.55
Gun Time 01:12:42.70
First 5K 00:35:15.60
Second 5K 00:32:30.95
Pace per Mile 00:10:54.30

Ran my first 10K (6.2 mi) race this morning at the ConocoPhilips Rodeo Run. The weather was cold and wet, but the race itself was fun thanks to my race buddy, JP. Highlights:

  • JP rubbing the bus driver’s hat for good luck.
  • The girls running in the jeans with the butts cut out.
  • Running the “viaduct” (aka, the bridge over the bayou).
  • Watching senior citizens pass us by.
  • The female runner making the XXX-rated groans and moans.
  • The kazoo band after mile 4.
  • Losing feeling in my hands from the cold.
  • Seeing & waving at AO near the finish line.
  • Booking it at mile 6.175.
  • Needing help untying my shoe because my hands were too numb to remove the race chip.
  • The free goodies at the post-race party.
  • Sitting in my car with the heater turned on full blast. ahhh.

Afterwards, a bunch of us went to Farrago’s in Midtown for brunch. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding with Golden Raisins was super excellent.

So, when I got off the plane at IAH in Houston, there was a bunch of drums and chanting. Why? There were hula dancers - three women and a man - performing in the middle of Terminal E.

  • failed standby

My attempt to catch the 4:30p flight back to Htown on standby was a no-go, so here I am sitting on the floor at DFW, waiting for the 6:50p flight to take me back home.

I’m going to pretend this floor is clean.

It’s pretty empty right now, but 35 minutes ago the terminal was full of businessmen yelling really loudly on cell phones.

Unlike the Atlanta Hartsfield Airport, DFW lacks outlets in the waiting areas…..which is why I’m sitting on the floor with my laptop plugged in and cell phone charging. It took me about 10 minutes to find this spot. People like me are scattered throughout the terminal.

The Muzak version of “Maneater” is playing. Sweet.

Flew into Dallas yesterday morning, leaving a very rainy Houston behind. Missed my flight in Houston because I stayed up till 4am working on this blog. and parking at IAH was seriously hell. I must have circled the parking garage for 25 minutes before finding a spot.

There’s really no other purpose for this post except to test out the photo function and some minor html coding.
