Driving to and from my many meetings this week, I came across this man at the corner of Westheimer and Hillcroft/Voss. Fuckin’ awesome. He let me take his picture with my trusty cameraphone, and in return I gave him some money.

Can’t deny a man a beer, can I?

    Back from Jazzfest. The weekend was a blast - heard lots of great music, ate, drank and danced in the sun. Took lots of [crappy] pictures with the cameraphone. I’ll post a more detailed report soon.

    Alright. I’m finally at the end of this week’s blogathon. It feels like I procrastinated writing a big paper till the night before it’s due.

    Later today, Tbus, BabyA and I are catching a train to Nawlins for the 2005 New Orleans Jazzfest. This will be my first time to JazzFest, so I’m looking forward to a fun-filled weekend of good music, good food and debaucherous fun.

    One of my goals is to eat alligator pie. I’m sure it’ll taste just like chicken.

    I’ll send in some cameraphone pics from the festival, so stay tuned.

  • The weekend was, in a word, wonderful. I didn’t taste many outstanding Texas red wines (although the best was in Fredericksburg), but we seem to make good dessert wines. MuffinBoy and I picked up some yummy Orange Muscat, Tbus also got some Muscat, and I scored a bottle of Cabernet Sauvingnon Blanc - supposedly the only “Cab Blanc” in the US, according to the wine-maker-man. Yummy.

    Here’s a summary of highlights from the weekend: (more…)

  • out of the woodwork

    I loves me my webstats.

    Here are the most recent search engine keywords that brought people here to escapevelocity.org….my little slice ‘o cyber heaven:

    • Two people in Ann Arbor, Michigan were researching how to freeze kimchi.
    • Inexplicably, cockroach open wings pics was a phrase of interest to two people in Toronto (do they have flying roaches in Ontario?! ew.)
    • Three people at Harvard in Boston were looking up bindaeduk. Looks like the Korean Bible Study group was having a little dinner party. The sheep.
    • jack johnson avocado meant something to a person in Libertyville, Illinois. Hopefully.
    • Someone in Hong Kong said freeze mutherfucker.
    • A person in Biglerville, PA was looking for the better luck tomorrow true story.
    • Someone in New Orleans (Nawlins) was looking for a nature remedy for getting rid of roaches. My advice? Fuck that natural shit - those nasty spawns of satan deserve to be raked through radioactive toxic chemicals. Though, it’ll probably just make them stronger. The fuckers.
    • I have no idea why a search for http://amleft.blogspot.com led someone to my website.
    • mutherfucker. Rock on, Poland, rock on.
    • Someone in Stuttgart, Germany really really had to pee.
    • Someone at Microsoft Corp in Redmond, Washington was looking up cardio myopathy.
    • A fellow T.Murakami fan in Japan was searching for little boy takashi murakami.
    • Some disturbed individual in Dixon, California was looking for mao tse tung death photos, and got sent to my site. WTF?
    • Someone in Ghana was interested in 2005 email guestbook of avocado in asia. I have no idea what that means, or why they’d end up at my site, but at least it’s not another search for dead Communist leaders.

  • Race Report: Run for the Rose

    Run for the Rose at Reliant. Rah. * Got to run the Run for the Rose 5K a few weekends ago with a group of peeps. We started outside Reliant Stadium, ran around the good ol’ Astrodome, and finished inside the Stadium on the floor of the football field. JP, my trusty running buddy, was motivating as always, chanting “knees like feathers” as we climbed Mt. Houston (aka, the bridges over Kirby). My time wasn’t great, but I found consolation in the FREE Krispy Kreme donuts at the post-race party. I even scored a nifty Krispy Kreme hat.
    * One of the things I love about races is the post-race party. And what I love about post-race parties is all the free shit they give out. I couldn’t find a plastic bag anywhere, so I grabbed a cardboard box and filled it with:

    * 2 bottles of water
    * 1 sugar cookie
    * 3 kolaches
    * 2 bottles of Coppertone Sunblock spray, 30SPF
    * 1 bottle of suntan lotion
    * 1 box of raisins
    * 1 small container of a strange cream cheese-like substance
    * 1 apple
    * 1 package of Crystal light drink mix
    * 1 banana

    * JP, AO, AC and MT made fun of my box ‘o goodies, but I didn’t care cuz it’s all about the free stuff, yo. The best part of the post-race party was when JP jumped onto the stage, grabbed the microphone, and made public announcements when our friends entered the Stadium. The race staff didn’t know what to do. Hilarious. Afterwards, we went to Mi Luna for what was probably the best brunch I’ve ever had. Amazing paella and other delicious tapas.
