Earlier this year, I switched my power company from Reliant to Green Mountain Energy. It was part of an attempt to be more a more environmentally conscious resident of Planet Earth, blahblah. After having just paid my 2nd $100+ electric bill for the summer, I’ve come to realize that Green Mountain Energy sucks balls.

The advertisements by Green Mountain Energy read:

“All of our electricity comes from less-polluting sources like wind, water, solar, biomass, geothermal, and natural gas.”

What they obviously failed to include in their propaganda was:

“….so, in exchange for letting you think that you’re actually doing something good for the environment, we’re going to charge you up the ass for electricity.”

More propaganda:

Why should I choose Green Mountain Energy Company as my energy supplier?Choosing cleaner, Green Mountain Energy electricity gives you an easy way to help clean the air we breathe by reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that you’re household would otherwise emit. As the largest retail provider of less-polluting electricity in the U.S., Green Mountain Energy Company offers an electricity product that is:

Cleaner - We buy our electricity from less-polluting sources including wind, water, solar, biomass, geothermal, and natural gas.

So? Who cares? Seriously. Sorry to all you tree huggers out there, but Green Mountain Energy is a total rip off. Nevermind that my power is still handled by Centerpoint - which means the actual source of my electricity hasn’t changed since I switched from Reliant. No - despite what the bright, crisp photos on the brochures imply, there are no lush, green fields with spinning powermills generating electricity for my home. ha.

As of tomorrow, I’m returning to the simpler, cheaper world of environment-hating power companies. yay!

fockers.
