helping with katrina

The Superdome in New Orleans is being evacuated, and 30,000 people are being relocated to the Astrodome here in Houston. More information on the front page of the Houston Chronicle.

One of the benefits of working for the County and the County Judge’s Office is that my mailbox has been filling up with announcements of volunteer opportunities for displaced New Orleans residents. The email below is one such announcement that’s crossed my desk.  (more…)

Houston’s a good 6 hours West of NOLA (6 hours if you’re driving the speed limit, 4.5-5.0 hours if you drive like me) so we (thankfully) didn’t get anything from Katrina. Apparently, it rained pretty hard on Saturday night, but I don’t remember that at all. In fact, on Monday, the weather here was sunny, bright, and warm.

  • Run the Woodlands 5K (8/30/05)

    Location: Run the Woodlands 5K
    Time: 33:02
    Avg Heart Rate: 175
Max Heart Rate: 222 (?? - can that be right?)

    - I’m pretty disappointed with my time. It might be my worst 5K yet. But, as Vic so encouragingly said, there’s never a bad run. :) I did have a great time, though, and the Woodlands was…woody.

    - Most (if not all) of the Houston Bloggers from Saturday were fellow Houston Striders, and all were really nice and down-to-earth peeps. Yay for Striders!

    - As it turned out, I ended up spending the rest of the weekend in North Houston (Kingwood, Spring, Woodlands). It felt like a mini-vacation.

    Time: 48:15

    Avg Heart Rate: 155
    Max Heart Rate: 179

    - I don’t remember anything about this particular run. hmm.

    Time: 1:48:26
    Pace: 13:33
    Average Heart Rate: 162
    Max Heart Rate: 177

    - Need to work on getting my pace closer to 10:30 - 11:00 min/mile….

    - What a difference a good night’s sleep and a turkey and avocado sandwich makes. This run was super easy, and the time flew by.

  • server problems

Sorry the blog’s been low on activities. Plus, the site was down for a few days due to some server issues with my host.

    Quick-o updates:

    - Ran the Run the Woodlands 5K on Saturday, and met some other Houston running bloggers. Meeting everyone made up for my terrible run time.

    - Saw Skeleton Key. Meh.

    - Will post my running logs in the next day or so.

    - I hate mondays.
