Dear Friends:

We have received a tremendous response from the APA community to reach out to assist our neighbors who have suffered from Hurricane Katrina.

I have had an opportunity to review the efforts being taken at Hong Kong Mall and have congratulated Mr. and Mrs. Hai for their generosity in feeding thousands of persons who have very little. S.O.S. Boat People is providing emergency funds for gasoline to families. Churches and temples are providing shelter and many apartment owners are making apartments available at a reduced rate.

The Asian/Pacific American Heritage Association and I have set up an account at Chase Bank to specifically support the efforts of the Asian Pacific Community to address needs of people with difficulty with language and culture. Checks should be made payable to Houston Asian Relief from Katrina (or HARK) may be sent to the following:
