To APAHA Members and Community Supporters:
***A message from APAHA Ex-Officio: Council Member Gordon Quan*****
Dear Friends:
We have received a tremendous response from the APA community to reach out to assist our neighbors who have suffered from Hurricane Katrina.
I have had an opportunity to review the efforts being taken at Hong Kong Mall and have congratulated Mr. and Mrs. Hai for their generosity in feeding thousands of persons who have very little. S.O.S. Boat People is providing emergency funds for gasoline to families. Churches and temples are providing shelter and many apartment owners are making apartments available at a reduced rate.
The Asian/Pacific American Heritage Association and I have set up an account at Chase Bank to specifically support the efforts of the Asian Pacific Community to address needs of people with difficulty with language and culture. Checks should be made payable to Houston Asian Relief from Katrina (or HARK) may be sent to the following:

It’s Friday, and I couldn’t be happier about that. On the other hand, I’m running 10 miles tomorrow with my running group, and I do not expect to survive. I haven’t run all week, and I missed last Saturday’s run. If I do die from tomorrow’s run, there’s a 6-pack of Negra Modelo in the fridge for whoever feeds Skokie.

Running buddy, Gulf Coast surfer and fellow Rhomboid extraordinaire spent a day volunteering at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Here are some excerpts from his email report (with his permission, of course):

a running buddy and fellow rhomboid, jpp, sent this out in an email. thought I would share, cause it’s the truth.
ive always believed that the actual texan persona is significantly at
variance from the unflattering stereotype perpetuated in movies and
television. this event converts that belief to fact.

Today I was in Reliant Center, working the volunteer registration and check-in areas. Pictures are posted below.
One thing I’ve noticed is that things change every day at Reliant Park. Systems that were in place one day may be completely different the next. A station that was set up on the first floor might be on the third floor tomorrow. It’s definitely confusing, and sometimes frustrating, but I think everything’s become more and more organized.

6237 = my bib number for the Houston Marathon.
And here is a link to my 2006 Houston Marathon donation page.
In return for your donations to any one of the many worthwhile causes, I will provide high entertainment by attempting to run 26.2 miles around the city of Houston.
