Three hits. That’s all RoyO let the Cardinals take last night! Oswalt pitched a GREAT game, and, well, happyhappyhappy.

Abbreviated Running Log #11:

I actually got a run in last night. My after-work running schedule’s been a little off since the series started (not a good excuse, I know), so I left work early at 6:30pm, rushed home and then to the gym to squeeze a quick 30 min run in. I was on the treadmille through the first three innings, and missed the excitement of Ausmus’ scoring runs. But, the gym staff (aka, fellow grad students) had set up a small TV by the front desk, and I was able to gauge the game by people’s reactions.

After Sunday’s 20K, I’ve decided to start pushing myself more speed-wise during my runs. I started off at 5.4 speed and increased the speed every 3-5 minutes and ended up at 6.4, which I think is a 9:40 min mile…..but I was only running for 30 minutes. I’d like to get my mile time down to a 11:00 min mile for the 25K next month, if at all possible. Ultimately, I’d love to run a 10:30 min mile for the Marathon in January…..but I dunno if that’s at all possible in 3 months if I’m starting at 11:30 minutes per mile.

I had forgotten to wear my heart rate monitor, but overall the run felt good.

And back to the game…:

  • In the middle of the 9th inning, SAB calls. He’s watching at home. “We’re going to the World Series!!!” I yell as I answered the phone. The ever cautious SAB who grew up an Angels fan, replied, “Well, it’s not over till it’s over.” I teased him about his negativity, but as JPP pointed out, he may still have been smarting from the Angels’ loss to the Red Sox in the 1986 (?) ACLS when they were up 3-1. Not to mention Monday’s heartbreaking last-minute hit by Pujols. Well, hopefully last night has cured SAB of his post-season PTSD. :)
  • As I was talking to SAB, JPP calls. I switch over and it sounds like he’s in a bar. Loud, lots of yelling. “Molina wears makeup!!! HAHAHHAHA!!!” “What??” I asked. Then, the game was over, all I heard was “YAAAAAAAAA” over the phone, and then the line went dead.
  • Spoke with a groggy, hoarse-voiced JPP this morning. He meant to call a friend in St. Louis to mock him about Molina and the Cards, but called my phone instead. Apparently, the bar he was at was giving away free tequila all night. Plus, he got TICKETS TO GAME 4 OF THE WORLD SERIES. *sigh*
  • Went to two Academy stores this morning looking for NLCS gear. The first store, in Kingwood, was completely sold out. The second store, off Kirby, had a line that was longer than the ones at Lowe’s during the Hurricane Rita evacuations. At one point the store manager asked everyone to move the line to the other side of the store, and brief chaos ensued as everyone rushed to situate themselves back in line. A woman behind me started yelling, “I’ve been here since 9am, and I demand to be in the front of the line! Where is a manager! I’m filing a complaint!!” Everyone was rolling their eyes. Then, a local news station showed up. The second Complaining Woman saw the cameras, she started primping her hair and putting on lipstick. Oh brother.
  • Luckily, I only waited in line for 30 minutes, and picked up two t-shirts and two caps (the limit per customer). As I was paying for my gear, the manager announced to the 200+ people still in line that there were only 75 t-shirts left.

Yay!
