Had a nice (albeit quick) meeting with Dr. Corboy, who checked over my knee/ITB and said it would be OK for me to run in the HMSA 25K (the 2nd of the Houston Marathon warm-up series) this Sunday. YAY!
Dr. Corboy checked my knee and confirmed that my problems were IT band related. I have some fluid in my knee, but nothing that should prevent me from running on Sunday….and more importantly, in January. She showed me some stretches to do, said I should stop at water stops to stretch if necessary and gave me some info about a Rice University professor who created a sports injury website explaining IT band syndrome.
I’m so happy that Dr. Corboy practices at Baylor Family Medicine. She specializes in women’s sports injuries, particularly those related to running…..and best of all, she’s run at least 11 marathons herself!! She said she and her husband (also a runner, and a physician at the clinic) are training for the Tuscon Marathon in December, so she won’t be doing the 25K this weekend. I really, really wanted to talk to he in more detail about her Marathon training strategies, marathon experiences, experience treating female athletes, the types of injuries/problems she sees most often in women runners, etc…..but she was late for another appointment and I had to get to the office.
I’m looking forward to seeing my fellow Houston Running Bloggers and fabulous Houston Striders at the race this Sunday!!

Jen, how do you like php? My new web hosting site supports it so I’m thinking about learning it.
REALLY hope I get to see you on Sunday.
Have a great race on Sunday.

Jen,
Great news, see you Sunday! Don’t forget the Strider Tent is available to stow your gear.
Cheers, Steeeve
See you Sunday. Funny that you mention stretching by the water stations. I’ve been doing that during the last 2 races. For me, it has been the most painful at around mile 3 and progressively gets better. Perhaps I should concentrate more on warm up techniques.
Anyway, see you at the race!!
Good news Jen! Glad to hear you’re back on your feet (both virtual and actual). Have fun Sunday; be kind to yourself and listen to your body.
