In what may be filed under "Bad Decisions of the Year," I've decided to give up coffee until after the NYC Marathon.  I can't articulate the reasons clearly right now because, well, I haven't had any coffee this morning.

But since I don't completely hate myself, I've decided to abstain from coffee, but not caffeine.  So, it's all about tea from now till November.  I made a batch of green tea last night, and put it in the fridge for some nice chilled green tea.  I've had four cups so far.

About to cross a flooded 610 south feeder onto the highway. That construction cone has been floating past.

I'm on some side street off 610 South between Fannin and Kirby and we're boxed in waiting for the water to subside.

  • 2 miles on treadmill  (in wonderfully air conditioned gym)

    30 min weights

    10 laps in pool (ahhhhh)

    • This was my first time to do laps this year….and wow, there's nothing like jumping into a pool when it's 104 degrees outside.  I did 10 laps, but varied the strokes - did mostly breaststroke and freestyle.  It took me a few laps to get used to breathing correctly in the freestyle, but once I got it down, it felt pretty good.  I'm definitely going to swim more - plus, it's a good way to keep progressing my shoulder recovery.   I'll just have to lay off the backstroke for a while - it definitely hurt after 2 laps.

Thanks to a referral by Luna, I have a new favorite website - runningahead.com.   It's an online training log that tracks all sorts of cool things like pace, route calculators, weight, mileage, etc.  It even creates graphs of your workouts (running, cycling, swimming, etc), and other wonderfully geeky stuff.  Best of all, it's FREE.   Thanks Luna!

It's 5:30pm and the heat index is 104 degrees.  I considering doing 3 miles at Rice University, but forget that - dude, I'm going to the gym.

woohoo, I've finally gotten around to redoing escapevelocity…..and put an end to my 6+ month blogging hiatus. I've started SMART in preparation for the NY Marathon (eek), so it's time be a running blogger again (or blogging runner?)

That's it for now - I'm feeling rusty from all my non-blogging time.   Also have to start logging my weekly runs, too.
