  • I wanted to get a run in before meeting some friends for tacos and a movie. My original plan was to run 10 miles - I was helping out with the Houston Striders’ Longest Long Run on Saturday morning, so I was going to miss the HoustonFit scheduled 10 miler. Unfortunately, everything on Friday took longer than expected (holiday traffic was insane), so I only had time to get 5 miles in.
  • The run was good. It was my first time running in my own neighborhood, actually. There were sidewalks along the whole run, except on Holly Hall where the sidewalks were being repaved.

  • This morning’s run was freezing, raining, muddy, slippery and generally altogether uncomfortable (bordering on miserable)….and I feel awesome because I had a good run and finished the entire course. Yay!

I woke up at 4am and heard steady rain outside. Not good. The Weather Channel said the temp would be in the low 40’s for the run, so adding rain into the mix really sucked. When I stepped out of the house, it was much colder than I expected, so for the first time this year I brought out the ugly running tights….though what they lack in fashion, they more than make up in function. heh.

The city had closed down the Memorial Park exit off of 610, so I drove all the way to 290 and back….and made it to the start of the run with mere minutes to spare. I saw Jon and 30 seconds after, we were off.

    • I have YET to see Rent. I know, it’s a crime. *sigh* Anyone interested?
    • Well, it appears the answer to whether or not there are any safe, well-lit places to run in Kingwood after dark is: NO. Oh well.
    • My long run on Saturday (10 miles) went well. Nothing out of the ordinary. My knee seems to be improving, since I haven’t had any IT band issues lately. Yay for stretching. I’ll post my times later (when I get back to my watch).
    • Speaking of - I think the battery in my Polar watch is going out. The battery can only be replaced by Polar themselves, which means I’ll have to send it in. If I can’t get the watch back by the Marathon, I may just stop wearing it on my long runs in order to save the battery. Maybe there’s a cheap-o $10 stopwatch I can wear in the meantime…
    • I spent 5 hours at the Galleria on Sunday, braving thousands of holiday shoppers. I counted that as my cross-training activity for the day. heh.
    • ONLY 41 MORE DAYS TILL THE MARATHON!!

    Running Log #15

[fyi - I haven't been posting my weekly training runs because there's not much to report other than "I got the gym at 9:00pm. Ran on the treadmill for 45 minutes. Went home." If anything, I would add, "I really wish I could get out of work early enough to run at Memorial again.")

    Quick summary:
Saturday was a bad long run. Again. My right knee gave out at mile 8 of the 13 mile run. I made it back to the Park in one piece (thanks to two considerate HF coaches), but spent a few minutes panicking about not being able to run the Marathon.

Distance: 13 miles (actual miles run = 8)
    Time: approximately 1:34:47
    Pace: ~ 11:50
(I stopped my watch when I started having knee problems)
