frodo lives!

escapevelocity is back!

So, I’ve finally resigned myself to the fact that I’m not becoming a Wordpress guru anytime soon, and the best thing is to pack it up and return to Blogger….where it all began. The purist in me is sorely disappointed that I’m not tackling the world of CSS, PHP and custom scripts….getting “under the hood,” as it were. But I think my determination (i.e., procrastination) to master those details of web design kept me from actually keeping up with this blog.

It’s a much simplier, happier place here at blogger. The buttons are big and colorful. The UI is pretty foolproof. Blogger just doesn’t have the sexiness that MovableType or Wordpress have, but I accept it. I embrace it. Despite my geek defeat.

So, I did a domain search for haejin.com. The domain was for sale, so I emailed the owner asking how much she/he was selling it for. This is the response I received.

  • so, i got hacked.

everything’s fixed now (obviously), but for a while this site’s url was being automatically forwarded to some annoying online lottery page. the kind that blinks and has scrolling text that guarantees that you’ve won 1 million dollars.

what really irks me, though, is that some hacker kid wasted her/his time here……i mean, come on folks. this is just a personal blog. why not use your skills and talent for the greater good, like hacking into the Christian Coalition, the NRA or the official website for Jewel?

    anyways.

went to kemah with sis/cousins/significant others, walked around, drank alot of really good texas beer, got drunk, ate too much fried seafood, got sick in the bathroom, watched fireworks, sat in traffic for 45 minutes, drove the cousins home. god bless america.

also went surf fishing, and caught a catfish and a blue crab. whee.

  • the beginning

i’ve owned escapevelocity.org for over a year, never really sure what i was gonna do with the page. i purchased the domain name because i liked the concept of a physics formula as metaphor for life. let’s face it - i’m a geek.

escapevelocity is about escaping binding forces. expectations, assumptions and misconceptions that pull you down and leave you stranded. it’s about prying yourself away from these forces….whether they be societal norms, attitudes or certain people….and having the strength to go against the dominant flow. it’s about not being a part of the herd…..being yourself, yes, but also being genuine and truthful. refusing to be cemented in place by imposed definitions of you that just don’t fit.
