Run for the Rose at Reliant. Rah. * Got to run the Run for the Rose 5K a few weekends ago with a group of peeps. We started outside Reliant Stadium, ran around the good ol’ Astrodome, and finished inside the Stadium on the floor of the football field. JP, my trusty running buddy, was motivating as always, chanting “knees like feathers” as we climbed Mt. Houston (aka, the bridges over Kirby). My time wasn’t great, but I found consolation in the FREE Krispy Kreme donuts at the post-race party. I even scored a nifty Krispy Kreme hat.
* One of the things I love about races is the post-race party. And what I love about post-race parties is all the free shit they give out. I couldn’t find a plastic bag anywhere, so I grabbed a cardboard box and filled it with:
* 2 bottles of water
* 1 sugar cookie
* 3 kolaches
* 2 bottles of Coppertone Sunblock spray, 30SPF
* 1 bottle of suntan lotion
* 1 box of raisins
* 1 small container of a strange cream cheese-like substance
* 1 apple
* 1 package of Crystal light drink mix
* 1 banana
* JP, AO, AC and MT made fun of my box ‘o goodies, but I didn’t care cuz it’s all about the free stuff, yo. The best part of the post-race party was when JP jumped onto the stage, grabbed the microphone, and made public announcements when our friends entered the Stadium. The race staff didn’t know what to do. Hilarious. Afterwards, we went to Mi Luna for what was probably the best brunch I’ve ever had. Amazing paella and other delicious tapas.

I’ve got quite a few updates to post, and I know they’ve been slow coming. Read the rest of this entry »
Heading out on a weekend roadtrip with Tbus and Muffinboy. The Texas wildflowers are blooming and there’s nothing I’d rather be doing this weekend than standing in an ocean of bluebonnets. We’re taking the scenic route up Highway 290 to Fredericksburg, stopping at all the wineries along the way. I’ve never been to a winery before, so I’m ready for the fun. On Sunday, we’ll drive through Austin to Enchanted Rock for some hiking, then head over to Inks Lake.
oooh…and I just did my taxes. Yeah, an hour late, but hey. Getting a healthy refund this year. Thanks, Uncle Sam and TurboTax.
Sorry, little blog, for being away. Been hanging out at other websites, but I promise it was meaningless and I thought of you the whole time.
It’s 2:53am and I’m riding out the effects of latenight coffee at Brasil. The company was, of course, wonderful - but nursing that iced cappucino till 10pm was ill-timed on my part.
On the upside, I’ve cleaned and put away the dishes, scrubbed the kitchen, swept the floors, paid the bills and finished two loads of laundry.
I’ve woefully neglected this little corner of cyberspace, leaving all you (aka 4, max) readers in limbo. Following tales of killer cockroaches and the passing of beloved pets, I know you’ve been itching for updates. woo. Read the rest of this entry »
it’s 6:00am on a saturday morning, and i can’t go back to sleep. this is about the time that boerne would be jumping onto the bed, begging to be fed or petted.
boerne died on thursday. he had been my buddy for 10 years.
yesterday i felt surprisingly OK. i kept myself busy and out of the house all day. then i came home and the reality of boerne’s absence kicked me in the ass again.
skokie’s been very, very clingy since thursday….which, i think, helps both of us.
the vet did an autopsy. she found a small growth in boerne’s heart and one of his ventrical walls was “paper thin.” i think she mentioned something like “cardio myopathy” or vestibular-blah-blah, but i really can’t remember. i was a little angry at her - i had taken boerne in to see her on Tuesday, and she said he was fine. “he’s just getting older, and gravity’s getting the best of him,” was her assessment of his sudden balance problems. in the end, though, i suppose there isn’t really anything she could have done. boerne was always rather sickly.
anyways.
