2006 Bayou City Classic 10K

[photopress:bayoucityclassiclogo.jpg, thumb, alignleft] Sunday’s Bayou City Classic 10K was my 2nd favorite race to date (1st is the 2006 Houston Marathon). I haven’t had so much fun at a race - got to run with a friend, wear a silly costume, stop and chat with friends along the course, take pictures and run the 6.2 miles purely for fun.

I was a Running Nose (my Halloween costume from last year) and John was a Box o’ Tissues. The backup plan was for John to wrap himself up in yellow saran wrap and go as a Running Booger, but in the end, the Box idea came through.

[photopress:bayoucityjenandjohn.jpg, thumb, alignleft] Ran the Bayou City Classic 10K this morning with my race buddy and author-of-the-best-book-ever-written-about-the-Houston-Oilers, John P. I was a running nose (get it? yuk yuk), and he was a box o’ tissues. We rocked, if I say so myself. And we won an award for our costume!! Ok, every costume team won an award, but hey.

I didn’t wear a chip (well, I just stuffed the envelope in my pocket) or a watch, so I don’t know my time (gasp!! the blasphemy!!) But who cares? It was fun.

More detailed race report to come, including more photos. For now, I’m heading over to Spanish Flowers for some post-race texmex. mmmmm….greasy tacos.

Location: From Bayou Place to Minute Maid Park
    Distance: 10K
    Watch time: 1:18:17 (bleh)
    Avg/Max HR: 184/204 (??)

Not a great race at all. My finish time was 11 minutes slower than last year’s RodeoRun. Bleh. However, it was my first time running an official race in the rain and I have to say, it was kinda fun. I’m feeling a little sick again but hey - it was worth it.

    Gun Time 01:12:42.70
    First 5K 00:35:15.60
    Second 5K 00:32:30.95
    Pace per Mile 00:10:54.30

Ran my first 10K (6.2 mi) race this morning at the ConocoPhilips Rodeo Run. The weather was cold and wet, but the race itself was fun thanks to my race buddy, JP. Highlights:

    • JP rubbing the bus driver’s hat for good luck.
    • The girls running in the jeans with the butts cut out.
    • Running the “viaduct” (aka, the bridge over the bayou).
    • Watching senior citizens pass us by.
    • The female runner making the XXX-rated groans and moans.
    • The kazoo band after mile 4.
    • Losing feeling in my hands from the cold.
    • Seeing & waving at AO near the finish line.
    • Booking it at mile 6.175.
    • Needing help untying my shoe because my hands were too numb to remove the race chip.
    • The free goodies at the post-race party.
    • Sitting in my car with the heater turned on full blast. ahhh.

Afterwards, a bunch of us went to Farrago’s in Midtown for brunch. The White Chocolate Bread Pudding with Golden Raisins was super excellent.
